  19.      I really hate to beg, but since the net is my only good source of info on
  20. Atari related subjects, ( there is no dealer within 100 miles, and the local
  21. bookstores don't even carry the ST magazines) could some of you PLEASE!
  22. provide answers ( even if the answers are that there is none/its impossible/I'm
  23. crazy for even thinking about it ) to any of my questions? This is my third
  24. posting of this, with only one response so far, and I'm really getting
  25. desperate! Email to me OR to the net, as I have discovered from the 'if you
  26. find it, let me know too' responses I have gotten that there is some
  27. general interest in answers to the following questions.

  29.      1) Is there any software for the ST that can convert DEGAS, NEO, CAD-3d,
  30. or ANY of the ST picture formats into HPGL and/or DXF files OR HPGL and DXF
  31. to an ST format?
  32.  
  33.      2) Can someone recommend a good X-Y type plotter for the ST? Preferably
  34. capable of color and able to handle HPGL files? Addresses and/or telephone
  35. numbers in North America would be appreciated.
  36.  
  37.      3) Has anyone been able to successfully install the Hewlett-Packard
  38. version of MS-DOS on a hard disk so that you can boot from it with the software
  39. version of PC-DITTO? Does anyone know a phone number for Avant-Garde that is
  40. not always busy or a recording? Does anyone have a GT-1000 5.25" drive that
  41. WORKS with their ST?

  49.      P.S. Can anyone tell me what the Atari Developer's Defense Group ( or
  50. something like that ) is? I saw it mentioned in a recent START letters column
  51. and wondered what it is, how one might join, etc...???

  60. Almost everything I was selling has been taken - I tired to respond
  61. to everyone, but my apologies to anyone I missed.
  62.  
  63. Anyway, the only thing left is the Magic sac.  Granted, this is no spectre;
  64. it runs less sofware, doesn't do sound, and is currently unsupported, but
  65. there is plenty it can do, and it's a very cheap way to get about 60% of
  66. a mac. $40 + shipping, or best offer over $20 takes it (the ROMs alone
  67. cost more then that!)

  100. To anyone at Atari USA - Can you tell me why Atari UK are so slow in
  101. releasing TOS 1.4 ?
  102. I and a number of friends have seen comments flying around on the nets
  103. for months now but still nothing seems to be happening in the old UK.

  105. Anyone else have any ideas how to get it - would a 'non-UK' version
  106. work ie. could I mail order one from a supplier in the states?

  108. Does anyone know i) where to get a copy of Gemini 1.1 and ii) if it
  109. works with the old version of TOS in my Mega - a friends got a new STe
  110. and we had a quick play with version 1.0 - very nice, especially the
  111. movement of the dialog boxes using the blitter. My it almost made my
  112. wish I had a blitter in my Mega - whatever happened to the blitters
  113. that Megas were meant to have in them?

  170. I don't know for sure, but I would assume that the wildcards in
  171. TOS 1.4 were designed to work like those in MSDOS.  If that's the
  172. case, then everything you mentioned is a feature.  When using the
  173. '*' as a wildcard, it means fill the rest of this portion of the
  174. file name with '?'.  The file name consists of two portions,
  175. the name, and the extension. So:
  176. P*.PRG really means P???????.PRG
  177. *2.PRG really means ????????.2
  178.  
  179. You can only use one '*' in each portion of the file name
  180. because it means fill the rest of this portion with '?'.
  181. A '?' means to accept any character as a match.  So:
  182. ?2*.PRG would match A2.PRG and A2A1.PRG, but not A1A2.PRG
  183. BA?IC.* would match BASIC.PRG and BA1IC.TXT, but not VASIC.PRG.

  185. Your example of *2.PRG sits on the dividing line.  On the one
  186. hand you have the '*' which says to fill this portion of the
  187. file name with '?', but you also have the '2' on the left
  188. side of the period, which is meaningless, since the '*' has
  189. already filled out this portion of the file name.  So, either
  190. the '2' should be ignored, or it should be used as the match
  191. for the extension portion of the file name.  TOS 1.4 chose the
  192. latter method.
